Dr. Christine Johnson McPhail
Dr. Christine Johnson McPhail is the president and CEO of the McPhail Group LLC and a nationally recognized thought leader in higher education. She is the founding professor and director of the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program at Morgan State University. Dr. McPhail is the former president of Cypress College in California. She currently serves as a professor of practice at Kansas State University in the John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership Development. She is a Certified Associate for Emergenetics International, which helps organizations, ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies, achieve desired results including increased efficiency and improved communication through solutions centered on the Emergenetics Profile and tools.
Dr. McPhail has developed proven coaching and consulting methodologies and leadership programs that are now used by numerous institutions to help their leaders drive results. She is the author or co-author of several books, including Leadership Tune-Up: Twelve Steps to Becoming a More Successful and Innovative Leader, Practical Leadership in Community Colleges: Navigating Today’s Challenges, and the forthcoming Transformational Change: Becoming an Equity-Centered Higher Education Institution. She is also a sought-after speaker and facilitator who has delivered keynote addresses and workshops at national and international conferences and events.
Dr. Abena McPhail
Dr. Abena McPhail is the vice president and chief operating officer of the McPhail Group LLC and a senior consultant for Emergenetics International. She is a certified Emergenetics Associate and a certified Emergenetics Meeting of the Minds facilitator. She has over 15 years of experience in higher education, including teaching, administration, and research. She is an adjunct professor at Morgan State University, where she teaches courses in the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program. She is also a visiting scholar at the John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership Development at Kansas State University.
Dr. McPhail specializes in leadership development, organizational development, and cultural responsiveness integration. She has designed and delivered training and development programs for various clients, such as the American Association of Community Colleges, the League for Innovation in the Community College, the National Council on Black American Affairs, and the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship. She is the co-editor of the book Team Leadership in Community Colleges and a co-author of the forthcoming book Transformational Change: Becoming an Equity-Centered Higher Education Institution. She is also a frequent presenter and panelist at national and regional conferences and events.
Dr. Ralph C. Johnson
Dr. Ralph C. Johnson is a senior consultant for the McPhail Group LLC and a professor of practice at Kansas State University in the John E. Roueche Center for Community College Leadership Development. He is the former president of Brookdale Community College in New Jersey and the former chancellor of the Houston Community College System in Texas. He has over 40 years of experience in higher education, including teaching, administration, and governance. He is a board member of the American Association of Community Colleges and a past chair of the board of directors of the League for Innovation in the Community College.
Dr. Johnson is an expert in strategic planning, governance, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness. He has led several successful initiatives and reforms in areas such as student success, workforce development, academic innovation, and community engagement. He is the co-author of the book Practical Leadership in Community Colleges: Navigating Today’s Challenges and a contributor to the book Team Leadership in Community Colleges. He is also a renowned speaker and mentor who has inspired and influenced many current and aspiring leaders in higher education.
